We would advise you to arrive on Sunday 14 June and to depart the following Saturday. The Symposium will kick off on Monday morning with a full day of papers and presentations and concludes late on Friday night. Trieste airport has connections to Rome, Milan, Munich, Frankfurt, Valencia, and London Stansted.

For those arriving into Trieste–Friuli Venezia Giulia Airport (TRS), you can either take the bus (no. 51, costs €4.05) or the train into town. Taxis are expensive (about €60) and hard to find on a Sunday.

When you come through arrivals, there is a bus ticket machine to the right of the exit door. You buy the ticket there. The buses can be found to your right after you exit the airport building. Alternatively you can get the train. The station is a five-minute walk away. Again buy tickets in advance and convalidate your ticket before boarding. The train takes half an hour and costs €3.30. There’s one at 17 minutes past the hour. The bus takes more like an hour. Departure times on Sunday from the airport are 6.00 8.05 9.05 10.15 11.35 13.05 14.05 15.50 17.05 18.05 19.45 21.10 22.40 23.30. The centre of town is a 15 minute walk from the station.

If you are arriving into Venice Marco Polo  or Venice Treviso airports, take a bus to Venice MESTRE (and not Santa Lucia). From Venice Mestre you can get a train to Trieste. There is one every hour and it costs approximately €13. Tickets must be purchased on the Trenitalia site in advance or in the station and must be convalidated (use the yellow machines) before boarding. The train takes approximately two hours.
